The BBC One 90 minute Sherlock Christmas special is planned to be shown in cinemas around the world, including China. The return of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Holmes and Watson is set in Victorian England.
The special is a “one-off episode” set in 1895 London, and was co-written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss. The episode will also feature other series stars, including Rupert Graves as Inspector Lestrade, Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson, Louise Brealey as Molly Hooper, and Amanda Abbington as Mary Morstan. The episode was directed by Douglas Mackinnon, whose previous credits include Doctor Who.
Meanwhile, actress Amanda Abbington teased about the upcoming special…
“It’s not what you think,” said the actress, who plays Mary, the wife of real-life partner Martin Freeman’s John Watson.
“People say the perfect thing was that Sherlock was modern day. But I know what’s happened. There’s more to this… Although I can say that it’s great.” (Source: Radio Times)
